The Plastimo Lorient Mini with Alexia Barrier 😊
Without a doubt a race that we don’t forget.
A first leg with a small 6h loop in 20kt wind conditions, with squalls up to 38kt. Everything I like. I was afraid to enter a class where we never sail in wind, I took 2 reefs (reduced the sail), even a 3rd for a few seconds 🎉
Unfortunately I trawl sending my spinnaker and tear it completely… Loving the wind is good, knowing how to sail in it is better grrrrr. Beginner’s mistake never to be made again. 10th out of 25 but then I take a 24 hours penalty, because I want to take my spare spinnaker for the second leg to train. It doesn’t matter the ranking (I have to be in the last ones), the goal is to learn, especially since I am ideally accompanied for that 👩🏫
Second stage with a 16 hours loop around Hoëdic and Belle-Ile in less wind. The starts are still shy and unfortunately they are expensive from the beginning. My bad catamaran reflexes are visible, I don’t anticipate enough the transitions and maneuvers thinking I’m on an ETF26 that turns and gybes in 5 sec. Lili is less nervous 😉
Fortunately, I also see the benefits of long distance catamaran sailing with my dad which allows me to be comfortable on 100miles courses, I can’t wait to attack longer distances. The nav with Alexia was almost faultless in strategy, my black spot is the maneuvers. There is also the knowledge of Lili and her sailing game that I discover during the race for lack of being able to train more between races. So it will come!
Many thanks to Alexia for her transmission on board and her good mood all along despite my balls all weekend 😅
Next race is the Select Pornichet in 10 days in solo
